What it means
Probably Not a Good Idea is a still of Owen Grady, played by Chris Pratt, in Jurassic World from 2015, wearing the tight-lipped, skeptical look of a man hearing a plan he fully expects to fail. In the film he has just learned the park engineered a brand-new hybrid dinosaur for publicity, and the whole plot then spends ninety minutes proving him right. The meme keeps his understated verdict for any plan that is obviously headed for disaster: the top caption recaps the reckless idea, and the bottom delivers the flat, too-late voice of reason. The humor lives in the gap between how catastrophic the plan is and how calm the reaction stays, which is why it works for everything from deploying code on Friday to texting an ex at 2 a.m.
When to use it
- Reacting to a plan that is obviously going to end badly
- Deadpan commentary on risky or impulsive decisions
- Mocking corporate choices the whole team can see will fail
