What it means

Evil Kermit is a screenshot from the 2014 film Muppets Most Wanted, in which Kermit the Frog confronts his lookalike Constantine, the worlds most dangerous frog, wearing a black hood that makes the scene play like a Star Wars Sith moment. The still became a meme in November 2016 with a simple psychological formula: Kermit, the sensible self, says or thinks something reasonable, and the hooded Kermit whispers the lazy, tempting, or self-sabotaging alternative. It gave the internet a clean visualization of the inner voice, and captions use it for procrastination, bad spending, skipped workouts, and any moment willpower loses an argument. The templates humor comes from the hooded voice always being sincerely, reasonably wrong.

When to use it

  • Giving in to the lazy option your inner voice suggests
  • Joking about self-sabotage framed as reasonable advice
  • Captioning the internal argument between discipline and temptation
