What it means

The Scroll of Truth is a four-panel webcomic by artist Shen Comix in which an explorer finds a legendary scroll containing the truth, reads it, and hurls it away in disgust with a dismissive nyeh. Published in 2017, it became an instant universal template for rejecting inconvenient facts: the scroll's text names the truth, and the final panel is everyone who would rather not hear it. The format thrives on honesty about human nature, from personal habits like sleep schedules being important to industry truths nobody wants to admit. The comic's expressive final throw is so versatile that the template outgrew its fandom and became standard vocabulary for denial.

When to use it

  • Rejecting an uncomfortable but accurate fact
  • Naming the truth nobody in a group wants to accept
  • Self-aware jokes about ignoring good advice
