What it means

Spider-Man Pointing at Spider-Man comes from the 1967 Spider-Man cartoon episode Double Identity, in which a criminal impersonates the hero and the two face off, each pointing at the other. The still became a meme around 2011 and has only grown since, becoming the definitive image for two identical things confronting each other. The caption labels each Spider-Man with a name, product, or claim, and the joke is the total sameness: two competitors offering the same thing, two friends with the same flaw, a company's new logo beside the old one. It is the visual shorthand for hypocrisy, duplication, and mutual accusations that cancel out exactly.

When to use it

  • Two identical things accusing each other of being the copy
  • Mocking competitors, brands, or people who are exactly the same
  • Labeling a standoff between two versions of the same thing
