What it means
Look At Me comes from the 2013 film Captain Phillips, in which the Somali pirate Muse, played by Barkhad Abdi, seizes control of the ship, looks the captain in the eye, and declares look at me, I'm the captain now. The moment became a dual-purpose template: the look at me half is the demand for attention, and I'm the captain now is the announcement of an uninvited takeover. Together they caption any situation where something or someone abruptly assumes command, whether it is a new cat ruling the household, a software update rearranging your settings, a backup player becoming the star, or a Monday hijacking your week. The calm authority on Muse's face makes even the silliest coups feel ceremonial.
When to use it
- Announcing an abrupt, uninvited takeover of control
- A new person, pet, or thing claiming command
- Declaring that plans have changed without permission
