What it means
Friendship Ended comes from a real Facebook post made in 2015 by Asif Raza Rana of Pakistan, who used MS Paint-style graphics to inform the world that his friendship with Mudasir was over due to Mudasir's selfishness, and that Salman was his new best friend. The post's total sincerity, dramatic design, and formal announcement of a personal falling-out made it an instant global classic. The template preserves the structure: the caption declares the friendship ended with a former favorite, and the new best friend is whatever replaced it, from a coffee brand to a programming language to a sports team. It is used both for genuine switches in loyalty and for tongue-in-cheek drama about tiny consumer decisions.
When to use it
- Formally announcing you have switched loyalties
- Dramatic MS-Paint-style declaration of a new favorite
- Joking about abandoning a brand, show, or tool for a rival
