What it means

Doge is Kabosu, a female Shiba Inu from Japan whose side-eye glance and folded paws appeared in a 2010 photo on her owner Atsuko Satos blog. The image spread through Tumblr and Reddit in 2013 and became the defining animal meme of the decade, speaking in a now-legendary internal monologue of broken English: much, such, so, very paired with deliberately wrong nouns, plus wow. Doge is flexible in a way few memes are: the original image works as wholesome reaction, the object-labeling version maps two Shibas against each other, and the darker Swole Doge and Cheems variants grew from the same lineage. Dogecoin, launched in December 2013, turned the face into a financial icon. Kabosu died in May 2024 at eighteen.
