What it means

Bernie I Am Once Again Asking comes from a fundraising video that Bernie Sanders posted on December 30, 2019, during his presidential campaign, in which he says: I am once again asking for your financial support. A Reddit user turned the screenshot into an image macro on January 15, 2020, and within a week the format had flooded Reddit, Facebook, and Instagram, peaking with a post that collected over 70,000 upvotes in sixteen hours. The template is a snowclone: keep I am once again asking for and swap the request for anything, from lunch suggestions to a break to one molecule of serotonin. Sanders weary winter-coat earnestness made the format universally relatable, and his campaign ultimately leaned into the fame.

When to use it

  • Repeating a request you have already made far too many times
  • Asking for something unreasonable with weary politeness
  • Mocking anything that keeps showing up asking for attention or money
